Touring Car Mentoring Day
The BRCA 1:10 electric section in association with Cotswold Model Car Club are holding training / mentoring day at the Cotswold track on Saturday 2nd October. Inspired by Nigel Hales 1:12 workshop, the purpose of the event is to aid young and inexperience drivers and provide some sort of guidance in the basics of RC racing and car preparation, items covered will be car set up, race craft, race procedures etc. We have enlisted the support of some top UK touring car drivers to come along and spend some dedicated time with you, the benefits of an event such as this are far to many to mention and may be a major stepping stone for some as they attempt to up their game a little.
Places will be limited and as previously stated this is not aimed at experienced front running drivers, this is primarily aimed at the club driver looking to make the next big step, we will also look at applications from drivers who have shown potential in the lower finals of nationals and we feel could benefit from such an event. The final format of the event will be based around the details you submit with your entry, we will endeavour to base the day around your requirements, so we want an honest answer to the question….
Where do you feel you need to improve as a driver?
■ Car preparation ■ Tyre prep ■ Understanding set up changes ■ Race craft etc
If there is anything else you specifically want covered please mention it and we will attempt to cover the topic.
We aim to structure the day to ensure some one to one coaching with individual drivers, one piece of advise I will give up front, this wont become a general discussion meeting, these top drivers are considered experts and if you ask a question there is no point in debating the answer, you are here to learn, not answer a question with a statement with “ but what I do is this”, I don’t wish to sound harsh but we aim to try and give you a full day and hopefully you leave a smarter and a more complete driver, there will not be time to discuss stories “about how fast you are at your club”, this is not about egos its about gaining some useful knowledge. We will confirm the drivers we have mentoring and it is hoped we can cover all the mainstream touring cars currently being raced, so we will aim to give you time with a team driver using your chosen car, hopefully there be at least one team driver from each of the major manufacturers. The morning and early afternoon will be dedicated to the mentoring sessions including some one to one driving with a top driver, hopefully in the afternoon we can arrange some fun and games and possibly a race or two to put to the test what you have learned. Please don’t think this is an opportunity to come along and thrash your car around and dip in and out of the programme, yes you will get out on track but in a controlled manner.
You will need to bring your car, prepared and ready to go, we are limiting cars to 10.5 pro stock motors, so no mods please, also bring your kit to charge your cells. If we get the desired numbers we will arrange the butty wagon to be on site, if we do please support it.
To enter please forward your details to the E-mail address below, state your name and the car you drive, some brief racing history, (we want to establish the level at which you race, not how good you are) but most importantly what area do you feel you need to improve the most, feel free to add items we have not already mentioned, just be honest, you may not get this opportunity again. During the day we may video certain aspects of the sessions and post on the TC web site, these videos may be used (if good enough) as a point of reference for those unable to attend the event.
