BTCC Round 6: Snetterton

The Schumacher BTCC round 6 took place at the excellent Snetterton model car track, the weather conditions looked changeable so at the drivers briefing it was announced that it would be round by round qualifying, as per the BRCA national meetings all drivers needed to go out for each round to get the best possible grid position for the finals.

BRCA TC West London National Preview

BRCA TC Nationals Round 3: West London - July 12th/13th

Round 3 of this years national touring car series takes drivers to the popular West London track, if this years front runners have another good meeting it might be a case of job done for Chris Grainger and Glen Westwood...so who can stop them

The West London track at Hillingdon is one of the more well established stop off points for the national touring car community, the track is a total contrast to the last venue Cotswolds, West London is more of a Monaco type of circuit with un forgiving barriers and no grass run off areas if you run wide, the Monaco analogy ends there, but there has been occasions when the track has had a swiming pool section when it rains.

The layout at west london shows the true speed of the cars and they look spectacular, the right hand sweeper after the short straight will test the Sorex control tyre so tyre management will be a major factor, traditionaly new tyres work well at West London but drivers are limited, so do you throw new tyres at qualifying and get a good grid slot, or save them for the finals, expect to see a lot drivers looking over the shoulders of the competition to see what they are running. They dont nickname this place Wet London for nothing, so watch out if it rains and look out for the locals showing there local knowledge on set up.

A good result here for Chris Grainger would see the Yokomo driver almost definatley seal another title, he has two wins out of two and leads the series, behind him are a number of drivers that can upset Chris' apple cart. Olly Jefferies beat Chris here at the KO Grand Prix last year and admits to liking this track, wet or dry, Elliott Harper is quick aroud here, as is his X-Ray team leader Ben Cosgrove who is comfortable on the technical layout. Andy Moore's chances of winning this years title probably ended with a poor showing at Cotswold, but that wont stop the world champion going for the win, the meeting is likely to be a five way battle between these five drivers, but who else can get into the mix.

Chris Kerswell is a West London club member who knows his way around here, the Corally driver has possibly not transfered his winter form through to the tarmac nationals so far, but look for Chris to be fighting it out with the fast five, same goes for Chris' Corally team mates Glen Doman and Chris Delves, dont be surprised to see the Corally trio setting some quick times. Schumacher driver James Hart is another local driver you can expect to see putting in a strong perfomance.

In Pro Stock Glen Westwood looks unstopable, now succesfully transferred to Hot Bodies Glen has really got to grips with this new formula while others have struggled to grasp the new concept. Glens lead in this class makes him a frim favourite for the title, but now all the competition are getting there act together so expect Glen to have to work hard if he is going to make it three in row, West London has a strong membership some of whom are quick Pro Stock drivers, this contigent of strong club drivers may knock a few of the regular Pro Stock drivers down the order a little, so expect to see a few unfamiliar names in the A final and few top drivers heading up the B final.

Run time should not be an issue like it was at Cotswold, round by round qualifying will see full grid for all the rounds, wet or dry, so another exciting national in prospect, live up dates will be on the Central Booking site from midday on Saturday, will we see the current front runners sealing up the 2008 titles, or will the competion run them down to the wire at Halifax..the pressure is on Chris and Glen, West London nationals have alway produced good meetings, this should be no exception..

BTCC Round 5: Southend

BTCC Round 5: Southend

The Schumacher BTCC round 5 took place at the sunny Southend track, the weather was looking good and it seemed we would be in for a good days racing. Drivers had travelled from all over the country, it would have been nice to see a few more there but I guess some were persuaded to stay at home with it being Fathers day. There looked some very fast and consistent drivers in practice with everyone realising it was going to be a close days racing, quite a few drivers were in with a chance of winning their class..

STCC Rnd 5 - Bashley

STCC Round 5: Bashley Track.

Well, what a fantastic day, the weather was perfect all day, the racing was really close and some really great dices were seen in all the classes right through the field.... In TC3 the Staples brothers, Graham and Barry were just as close in the finals as they were in qualifying, with the FTQ and overall win going in the end to Graham. Well done Graham, it was those clean lines that did it. In TC2, Stuart Rand was obviously very pleased with his performance, taking FTQ and overall class win he was on an obvious blinder. His car looking exceptionally poised on the undulations of the track setting some quick lap times and really setting the pace by building and increasing his lead relentlessly each lap. But a special note should be taken of the exciting and very close racing going on behind him between Richard King and Lee Hedges, fantastic close and courteous racing, well done guys, it was clear afterwards you both enjoyed it too. In TC1 Mark Fuller was not having it all his own way, for a change. Blowing his motor in round one, changing his gearing and not tightening the layshaft resulting in a stripped spur gear in round 2, but finally he got it all together taking the final qualifying round and setting FTQ in the process. Taking the first final from a really quick and hard charging David Reece, only to drop out in final 2 with a severed sensor cable, resulting in a good win for Chris Barrett, then to take the final #3 win from yet again a fast running Chris. Well done to all today, a really enjoyable meeting, only had 2, (make that 3) and justifyable, moans and will raise these at drivers briefing next round. I think you will agree, the 123 pictures below clearly show not only the weather but also the drivers pleasure, judge for yourselves.......and finally a big thanks to Ian Newton and the SHMCC club members. This was Ian's first big meeting as the "track boss", and it went very well Ian, well done to SHMCC the track looked great too guys!
